WHat Am I supposed to do when division of polynomial?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Should I do recipocal or just cross multiply it?

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Like when you divide by any fractions, reciprocal the 2nd one and multiply

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

However I think it's in your best interest to factor our the trinomials and cross out like terms before

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

you do the switch

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So is it correct? \[\left\{ \frac{ (x-2)(x+1) }{ (x+3)(x-2) } \right\}\]

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

You should have more terms than that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x+1)÷(x+3)?

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Just switch the 2nd fraction. \[\frac{ x-2 }{ (x+3)(x-2) }\times \frac{ x+4 }{ (x+4)(x+1) }\] Now just cross out the like terms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea thats what I got but then wouldn't you cancel out the (x+4)?

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

yeah, the x+4 and the x-2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

opps i forgot to do the recipocal of (x+4) that's why I stuck with (x+1) on the top

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

do you see the answer now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks you helped me out

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

welcome
