OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

Stats help please?

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

well first off what's the shape?

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

I think it's C. mound shaped and approximately symmetric

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

what makes you think it's mound shaped?

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

well i just thought it was symmetrical and didn't think it was uniform so that would just leave the mound shaped answer to be symmetrical

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

well the difference between mound shaped and uniform is how the tails of the distribution look. AFAIK, the tails look about as tall as the middle in this distribution, which shows that it's actually not mound shaped

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

ohhh ok, am i wrong about it being symmetrical then? because if it were symmetrical then it would have to be approximately uniform (D)

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

Well, let's look at it this way. A mound shaped distribution and a uniform distribution are different in that there are more entries in the mean of a mound shaped distribution than in a uniform distribution

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

whether or not data are symmetrical really depends more on skew. Here is an example of asymmetrical but apprxoimately uniform data|dw:1424252836901:dw|

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

oh ok, so does that mean its uniform?

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

honestly I am stuck between uniform and symmetrical and uniform and not symmetrical. I think it would be approximately uniform and approxiamtely symmetrical

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

ok thanks ill go with d

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

np :)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

im inclining toward D too

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

Thanks! @ganeshie8
