quick question: a heretic goes ALONG with orthodox beliefs, correct? They agree with the church? thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, heretic believe or practice heresy :)

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Regarding biblical Christianity, what is heresy? Second Peter 2:1 says, “There will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.” From this verse, we see that heresy is anything that denies the teaching of Jesus.

OpenStudy (turtwig):

@BraceFacee do churches follow orthodox beliefs, or go against?

OpenStudy (turtwig):

ok i guess I should be asking what orthodox beliefs are.. @EclipsedStar @BraceFacee

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

I believe the question isn't specific enough...what time era are you talking about?

OpenStudy (turtwig):

wait wait... i think I get it now. a heritic would not agree with the church, and wouldnt follow orthodox beliefs, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Orthodox- doing what is generally or traditionally accepted as right or true; established and approved.

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Of course. ;)

OpenStudy (turtwig):

ok, thanks for clearing that up guys. @EclipsedStar @BraceFacee

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What the church believed was unorthodox, because they believe it was true and that anything else was wrong...like with Galileo, so basically. I don't mean to confuse you :)

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

So they basically go against or ignore the traditional ways of the Orthodox church. The church was "unorthodox" to heretics.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Basically :)

OpenStudy (turtwig):

one other question, followers of martin luther were the protestants right?

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Yes, the followers were Lutheran (aka Protestant).
