OpenStudy (kpoplove2289):

Explain some physiological applications of osmosis and diffusion. include specific tissue types involved in each.

OpenStudy (somy):

what have u written so far about it?

OpenStudy (kpoplove2289):

Nothing. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to talk about the epithelial tissue or not. I have a handout, but it doesn't mention anything about tissues and osmosis.

OpenStudy (somy):

yeah that tissue type part is a bit confusing -.-

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

It would be helpful if you knew what osmosis and diffusion are. Not just from copying what the textbook or online resource indicate, but an understanding of the mechanisms

OpenStudy (somy):

nin, that is right, but dont we have osmosis & diffusion in all tissue types? do u get that part of q?

OpenStudy (kpoplove2289):

I understand what osmosis and diffusion are. I just don't understand how the tissue part. Is it with dealing with Bowman's Capsule also?

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

Yes. Diffusion and osmosis occur in cells and eventually tissues. It is why I encourage the focus on mechanisms. In cells, we focus on passive transports (simple diffusion, facilitated, and osmosis). Diffusion occurs in respiratory system due to differences in partial pressure (again go back to the definition and mechanism of diffusion for this). Would Brownian motion give you an idea where it might be relevant in any of the systems? check out the kidneys! Osmosis plays a part in reabsorption of water in the nephron and absorption of water in alimentary canal. I hope the names I've indicated will prompt you to know what sort of tissues are involved. If not, look up tissue types :P
