Find the value of x. Round to the nearest degree. I believe I'm supposed to be using cosine like this x = cos * 7/9 but I do not know what to do after that step. Any help would be appreciated!

Here's the picture that goes with it.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you actually use sine because you have the opposite side (length 7) and the hypotenuse (length 9) so, sin(angle) = opposite/hypotenuse sin(x) = 7/9

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

the goal is to isolate x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okay, so it would be like sin^-1(7/9)?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

correct or arcsin(7/9)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what is that approximately?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 51.1

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I'm getting 51.0575587310187

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so double check

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got that too but I'm supposed to round it.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

i see, well they want you to round to the nearest degree (full degree)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So would that be just 51?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you so much for your help! :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome
