I need help with writing two line wedding vows in iambic pentameter!!! please.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need to write a pentameter couplet for both romeo and juliets wedding vows and i seem deaf to the whole accented and unaccented thing, i really need help

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

If you look up any word in the dictionary (any word with more than one syllable), you'll find information on which syllables are stressed and unstressed. The stresses are subtle, so it's easy to miss them when speaking or listening to others speak, but when you train your ear to listen for the stresses, you'll hear them. For example, when you say the "Italian," you hit the second syllable -- TAL -- with a little more emphasis than any of the others. When you say "hospital," you put the stress on the first syllable. When you say "New York," you stress the "York" more than the "New" -- "noo YORK" sounds natural; "NOO york" doesn't. But when you say "Kansas," it sounds natural to stress the first syllable -- "KAN zuss," not "kan ZASS." If you're writing poetry, you're probably reading poetry as well. Try reading some aloud and noticing where your voice naturally places the stresses. It probably won't take you long to get the hang of it.

if looked on dictionary websites and even the one our teacher provided us but I couldnt find anything on stress @EclipsedStar

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

A Sonnet consists of 3 Quatrains (four lines of poetry each) and ends with a couplet (2 rhyming lines). The lines are in iambic pentameter (unstressed/stressed times 5) The Quatrains should have a-b-a-b, c-d-c-d, e-f-e-f rhyme scheme. Read the Prologue.(Two households, both alike in dignity...etc.) That is a sonnet in form. Then create their wedding vows to follow that form.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@EclipsedStar our vows are only the couplets, but im completely deaf to the stress, like i get new york, but i dont get 1 syllable words, or really, any words other than that

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

The stress is just more "emphasis" on a word...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so does this work for u/u/u/u/u/ (x2)? my affection for you is eternal for you will be a page in my journal

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

I think so...but the last words don't really add up...

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Lol this is \(so\) complicated. XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk whatever i dont care about the rhyming, is the stress CLOSE to right?

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

So earlier you were asking for one-syllable words. Do you still need an example for those?

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

I believe so...XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, as long as that first one works, ill just have to do the other one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is my accented or not? what is an accented alt for my? our?

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

I think it is. Examples of one-syllable words are like "sky", "dog", etc.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay what about oh Romeo how I forever love, Ill be your beautiful golden dove

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

I don't think "Ill" goes well in that, how about: I shall be your golden dove

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

...or something like that..? XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it doesnt fill enough syllables

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

That's the thing

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Well, are you rushed? If time isn't on your side, I'd go with that...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont really care about the points for the flow, just the major points on the stress, so thanks you so much your a life saver

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

This is hard.... >_<

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Well, it was actually you that did all the work... :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

<3 thank you so much, i gotta get dressed now XD you helped with the stress

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

XD haha I see the pun. :3

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

"helped with the stress"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

couplets <3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh i meant it like dressed and stress, but two puns the better XD 2 = couplets, oh god so many puns

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Oh. XDXD :))

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Well, I hope you have a good night. :D
