what is f(-4)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. –5 B. –2 C. 2 D. 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a=-5 and b=-2

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

f(x) = f(-4) so what is the value of y when x= -4 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont know

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

So basically, find where x = -4 and then slowly go down and find the point where it intersects the line. The point should be (-4, y) and we are looking for y :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i ment -4

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

So first lets find where x =-4 That would be at the point (-4,0) but that isn't on the line so we have to find when x still equals -4 and also at the same time has a point that is on the line

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please help i have no idea

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

So here is the point (-4,0) http://prntscr.com/67gizh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats the answer right

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Not yet :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

So now just move that red dot lower and lower and lower until it touches the line.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

And that point would be (-4,??)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Exactly, and that is your answer :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks so much
