Functions f(x) and g(x) are shown below: f(x) = x2 g(x) = x2 - 10x + 25 In which direction and by how many units should f(x) be shifted to obtain g(x)? Right by 5 units Left by 5 units Right by 10 units Left by 10 units

OpenStudy (misty1212):

HI!!

OpenStudy (misty1212):

you are looking for the vertex the first coordinate of the vertex is alway \(-\frac{b}{2a}\) which in your case is \(-\frac{-10}{2}=5\) the second coordinate is what you get when you replace x by 5

OpenStudy (misty1212):

you will get \(0\) because \[x^2-10x+25\] is a perfect square it is \[y=(x-5)^2\]

OpenStudy (misty1212):

that moves it to the RIGHT 5 units
