Triangle XYZ is similar to triangle XꞌꞌYꞌꞌZꞌꞌ. Which two transformations were performed on triangle XYZ to produce triangle XꞌꞌYꞌꞌZꞌꞌ? Choose exactly two answers that are correct. A. Triangle XYZ was dilated by a scale factor of to produce triangle XꞌYꞌZꞌ. B. Triangle XYZ was translated 3 units up to produce triangle XꞌYꞌZꞌ. C. Triangle XꞌYꞌZꞌ was translated 4 units down and 4 units left to produce triangle XꞌꞌYꞌꞌZꞌꞌ. D. Triangle XꞌYꞌZꞌ was dilated by a scale factor of 3 to produce triangle XꞌꞌYꞌꞌZꞌꞌ.

I think you're missing something there in A :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea supposed to be 1/3 sorry

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Well it definitely wasn't translated, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

It had to be dilated. When you dilate something, it either gets bigger, or smaller. What happened to this one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think it got bigger or smaller i think smaller

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Yup, the bigger triangle is the original. The dotted triangle is smaller one. So it basically shrank. When you dilated something, usually if the factor is greater than 1, it gets bigger. So since this one didn't grow, we can eliminate that it got dilated by a factor of 3. What does that leave? :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am thinking B & C

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Nope, if it was translated, the triangle would of stayed the same size, it just would of moved. This one got smaller, it didn't move.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A & B?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

It got smaller. Since 1/3 is smaller than 1, we could say it was dilated by a factor of 1/3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A& C? I have to pick two

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Two? Strange. But yess, those are the only dilated options.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you

You're welcomeee
