@hhelpplzzz The first step to get help fast is to post the right question. I believe that you have omitted parentheses, that is why you do not get meaningful help. When you have an expression type-set like this: \(\dfrac{4z^{a+2}}{-8z^{a-2}}\) you have done the correct step of using a \(\div\) to represent the fraction. There are other rules in PEMDAS you will need to follow (the same way you would like to calculate using a calculator). If there are no parentheses, you need to execute the exponents a+2 and a-2 first, which means you would have to translate to 4z^(a+2)\(\div\)(-8z^(a-2) which correctly tranlates the above expression to a single line.
