Suppose you are in a place where the atmospheric pressure is 14.0 pounds per square inch (14 lb/in2). What is the total force being exerted by the atmosphere on one square foot of your body’s surface? (1 ft2 = 144 in2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Any idea of what you would do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sadly no :(

OpenStudy (aum):

On 1 square inch, the force exerted is 14 pounds. On 144 square inches, the force exerted is ? pounds.

OpenStudy (aum):

144 x 14 pounds.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2016 lbs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but how do you find force from that?

OpenStudy (aum):

That is the force. The definition of Pressure is: Pressure = Force / Area Therefore, Force = Pressure x Area = 14 pounds / square inch x 144 square inches

oh duh! thanks i bunch! I see it now!! :)
