Write 8.428 showing three significant figures. Remember to round.

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

hi there :) this is basically just rounding

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

if you want three significant figures, then that means you want to have three numbers left by the time you're done rounding Now you remember the rounding rules, right? @sarahprincess98 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not so much

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

alright so if you have a non-significant figure number that is less than 5, you don't round up the number stays the same for example: 3.673 would become 3.67 (three sig. figures...no rounding) or if your number is 5 and greater (5-9), you would round up for example: 7.839 would become 7.84 (three sig. figures...rounded up) Note: things generally do not round down

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

based from these rules, do you think you can answer? @sarahprincess98 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer would be 8.42?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Jamierox4ev3r

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

think again; the 8 at the end of the non-rounded number is greater than 5, so that means you round up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8.43

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

yes! that's correct :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay thank you :)
