Why doesn't OS have an online download for android instead of wait for a google play store version?
Like a lot of websites offer apk or regular downloads, why doesn't OS copy the ios code thingy and make it available for public download?
@e.mccormick
Umm... did they finally release it?
@Joel_the_boss its probably a virus. Its like when people say they have the *leak* of GTA V for pc but rock star have to release it first for them to get it.
Im asking why don't they do it? I know they haven't come out with it, but they could just offer it for public download. Like off Openstudy.com on the internet on android. you just ask would you like to install the app, then regular \(\color{green}{Download}~~~~\color{red}{Cancel}\) Many websites do this instead of going threw the play store. Why not OS.
Well, they would have to have one first... since they don't there is nothing to download. Second, direct download of an apk is not a good idea. The play store helps to make sure the target platform can actually run the application. Not all of them can and it filters them out as opposed to a direct download that could let you install something that is bad for your device.
Another reason why direct download apps are very risky: http://market-ticker.org/akcs-www?post=229849 This sort things is exceptionally popular with direct downloaded apps that can't be found on the Play Store. In fact, it is also a problem with some Play Store clones in other countries.
