OpenStudy (welshfella):

the formula for total angles in a polygon is 180(n - 2) where n is the number of sides so here 180(n - 2) = 540 so if you find the value of n from this equation you'll have the number of sides in the figure

OpenStudy (bohotness):

@O.O

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

basically, this equation determined that the number of sides can determine the total angle number in a polygon

OpenStudy (bohotness):

oh okay

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

so whatever n equals, thats the number of sides you will have. make sense?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

do you need help solving this?

OpenStudy (bohotness):

yes pleaseeeeeeee

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

so you solve this like a regular equation 180(n-2)=540 first, distribute 180(n-2)=540 180n-360=540

OpenStudy (bohotness):

O.O

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

see how this is going? then you add 360 to both sides 180n-360=540 +360 +360 --------------- 180n=900 Can you solve from here? @bohotness

OpenStudy (bohotness):

no

OpenStudy (welshfella):

Ok so if we divide both sides by 180 we get 180 (n - 2) 540 ---------- = --- 180 180 so that the left side becomes n - 2 what does the right side become?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

540 / 180 = ?

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

basically, just divide 540 by 180 the answer you get will determine how many sides your shape must have

OpenStudy (bohotness):

3

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

shoot. you would actually divide 900 by 180

OpenStudy (welshfella):

ok so now we have n - 2 = 3

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

my mistake see when you add 360 to both sides, you get 180n=900

OpenStudy (bohotness):

5

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

@welshfella there are different ways to solve the equation, pardon me for not acknowledging

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

and yes, @bohotness that's correct! :D

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

so i would answer Y.

OpenStudy (welshfella):

I'll back off here . We might be confusing bohotness

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

lol true .-. @bohotness are you following here?
