Here are the ages of the 10 finalists in a baking competition. 61 52 52 74 83 30 38 49 58 60 Which data values are outliers? Choose all answers that are correct. (Points : 1) 30 38 74 83

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Do you know what outliers are?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah but I'm confused on how to find them.

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

It's kind of simple. All you have to do is find values that are outcasts pretty much. Don't belong close in a group, like so: http://prntscr.com/69498q (From MathIsFun.com) :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay...

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Maybe plotting them will help? http://prntscr.com/6949ro

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

So I guess you could say they're all outliers (from the options)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So maybe 30 and 83?

OpenStudy (misty1212):

HI!

OpenStudy (misty1212):

i would go with 83 for sure nice to be baking at that age though...

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Actually, all of them, since an outlier is defined as numbers that are "far away" from the group, i.e. 30, 38, 74, 83..

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

The group being defined from 49 to 61.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okay!

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

You could try getting a second opinion on this if you wish from everyone else.
