@iGreen can you help me again please?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A patio in the shape of a regular octagon (8-sided figure) has a side length of 24 ft and an apothem length of 60 ft. What is the patio’s area?

OpenStudy (igreen):

Sure thing

OpenStudy (igreen):

Formula: \(A = 2(1 + \sqrt{2}) a^2\) Where 'a' is the side length, plug in the side: \(A = 2(1 + \sqrt{2}) (24^2)\) We can add \(1 + \sqrt 2\): \(A = 2(2.41421356) (24^2)\) Okay, first simplify \(24^2\).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

576

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yes, so we have: \(A = 2(2.41421356)(576)\) Now multiply all of those three numbers together

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2781.1742112

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yep, we can round that to 2781.17.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's the answer

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just 2781

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yes, if it wants you to round to the nearest whole number..

OpenStudy (igreen):

Do you have options?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope :/

OpenStudy (igreen):

Oh, does it tell you to round to anything?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (igreen):

Hmm..well last time it rounded to the nearest tenth, so maybe it wants us to do that..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay well thanks again I have to go to school..:P

OpenStudy (igreen):

Usually we round to the nearest hundredth, I would just put in 2781.17

OpenStudy (igreen):

Alrighty

OpenStudy (7thgrader):

@iGreen that wont fit :/

OpenStudy (igreen):

If it doesn't fit, then it wants you to round to the nearest tenth. 2781.2 should be correct.
