Chapter 2:Forces and Motion @mathmath333

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

where are you with your maths? do you get this: \[s = \int\limits v dt\] IOW you need to calc the NET area of the graph - ie net area between the line and the t- axis. Failing that, you can just break up the trip into bits, calc the ave velocity and time take for each and do it the messy way.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\(s = \int\limits v dt\) ?

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

distance is integral of velocity wrt time. forgt it if you haven't done this yet. just break the journey into bits, each with its own ave velocity and time period and slog it out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can u pls show me the working @IrishBoy123 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@IrishBoy123

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

OK, a snippet but there are rules here about doing other people's work for them: between t = 2 & t = 3, the average velocity is (30 + 0)/2 = 15m/s. distance travelled in that (2 - 1) = 1 s period = 15/1 = + 15m. do this for the other periods too and add them up. note that the velocity for the period 4 < t < 6 sec is -ve, it it travels backwards, so that needs to be deducted from the total, not added.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How did u get the distance travelld(2-1)=1 s period ? @IrishBoy123

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@IrishBoy123

OpenStudy (shamim):

Can i try it? @MARC_

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure :)

OpenStudy (shamim):

First i wanna find out the distance travelled by first 2 sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (shamim):

Its an area of this rectangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

60 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[=30\times2\]

OpenStudy (shamim):

Ya. U r right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what should we do next?

OpenStudy (shamim):

Wts the area of next triangle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

15

OpenStudy (shamim):

Ya correct!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what should we do next?

OpenStudy (shamim):

Frm 3sec to 4 sec it travells no distance

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (shamim):

Frm 4 sec to 6 sec it travells distance=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[=\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }\times-30\times2\]

OpenStudy (shamim):

Area of last triangle=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-30

OpenStudy (shamim):

Ya correct!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Next step,what should we do?

OpenStudy (shamim):

Sum of all area=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

After that,what should we do?

OpenStudy (shamim):

Not 15

OpenStudy (shamim):

60+15+0-30=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

45

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thnx @shamim ^_^

OpenStudy (shamim):

U r most welcome!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:)

OpenStudy (shamim):

Glad to help!!!
