What does individualism vs collectism have to do with gender competition

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let me give you the simple explanation. INDIVIDUALISM is all about the individual's needs. It's all about looking out for YOURSELF, and YOUR OWN family. It's about speaking your mind. It's about SETTING YOURSELF APART from everyone else, in a good way. COLLECTIVISM is all about the needs of the entire group, and all of society. It's all about thinking of OTHERS, and what's best for EVERYONE ELSE. It's about maintaining PEACE, even if it means keeping your opinions to yourself. It's about making yourself a PART OF THE ENTIRE GROUP. Some cultures are more Individualistic, like America, and England. And some culture are more Collectivist, like China, and Japan. ------------ Now, let's think about this. QUESTION: Where would we more likely see people trying to beat each other in a competition? Where would we see people trying to make THEMSELVES look better? People trying to SPEAK THEIR MINDS and STAND UP for their rights? Individualistic cultures? Or collectivist cultures?
