One way of doing this with small numbers like 12 and 16 is to list all the factors of each number. Then see which is the largest factor they both have. That is the GCF, Factors of 12: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12 Factors of 16: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 What is the largest factor both 12 and 16 have?
