Their Eyes Were Watching God help: After Jody slaps Janie, Hurston writes: Janie stood where he left her...until something fell off the shelf inside her. Then she went there to see what it was. It was her image of Jody tumbled down and shattered. Explain the comparison that Hurston is establishing with Jody's image in this passage.

Jody slapped Janie, in reality, that would END a friendship of any kind, right? Something falling down inside of her (meaning regret in some way, a tummy curling feel). and Jody's image/picture frame falling. I'd say put that in your own words, thats what it sounds like to me.
