ok well, Charlemagne was medieval emperor who ruled much of Western Europe from 768 to 814. In 771, Charlemagne became king of the Franks which were Germanic people that conquered Gaul in the 6th century and controlled much of western Europe for several centuries afterward. He embarked on a mission to unite all Germanic peoples into one kingdom, and convert his subjects to Christianity.
also he was a great military conqueror, and channeled this talent into the service of the church, for in taking over most of Western Europe and a fair bit of the east, he used military force to compel all his subject peoples to become Christian
