Because there were no more slaves they had to hire other people to do work and it cost a lot more for them. So it hurt them economically. @Superman499

here are the answers It helped bring it to an end in most northern states. It made states more stubborn about abolishing it. It made the practice more common and tolerated. Slavery was already abolished in the North by that time.
