What are the advantages of forensic science compared to the other types of evidence used in trials?

Forensic Science is Science applied to the criminal justice system. This allows us to test and prove physical evidence in court. This provides much more reliable and stronger evidence/explanations. This is reliable more than eye-witness testimony or plain statements. This can tell what gun was fired, the trajectory, height of shooter, distance from target, and clear intention. (Whether it was self defense or not.)

There is a report, commissioned by US gov't by the National Academy of Sciences that shows how poor the state of forensic science is. Many things are not as 100% true as police make it out to be. Example, most of the current methods of fingerprint testing distort the prints. In at least one case this led the FBI to arrest the wrong person because the distortions made the fingerprints on the scene and on the suspect match. It happened in the Madrid train bombings.
