I'll probably be doing similar soon... I'll both be finding a good youtube tutorial series as well as pick up a good textbook from barnes & noble. Though regardless of what android tutorial you follow... it's a good thing to know at least some java first- Android is a big API (a series of pre-written classes & methods), so knowing how object-oriented programming works is pretty essential; but if you find one that teaches beginning java at the same time as android stuff- more power to ya.

Coursera has an entire set of Android courses. Very good. They run ann the way from basic front end stuff to developing client-server stuff.
