Some organisms can reproduce both sexually and asexually. Being able to reproduce asexually is beneficial in situations where mates are not readily available. Which of the following describes the most likely consequence of undergoing only asexual reproduction over a long period of time? 1) It will increase the frequency of genetic mutations. 2)It will result in reduced genetic diversity within the species. 3) It will make the species unable to reproduce sexually. 4) It will decrease the life span of the species. Not sure about the answer, so any help is appreciated =)
Sexual reproduction is a source for genetic variation because when a sperm and an egg unite, these sex cells have different genetic codes which will result with daughter cells that has some chromosomes from one parent and some chromosomes from the other parent. This will highly increase new genetic information. With asexual reproduction, there's only 1 parent, that means that there wont be new genetic variation in offspring. There will only be same genetic copies in every offspring.
So, undergoing only asexual reproduction over a long period of time will result in what?
The second one ?

Can you also help me with another one ?
