The figure below shows a shaded region and a nonshaded region. Angles in the figure that appear to be right angles are right angles. A picture of a rectangle is shown. The bottom of the rectangle is labeled 16 ft. The right side of the rectangle is labeled 8 ft. At the bottom left side of the rectangle there is a label that reads 2 ft. Inside the rectangle is a shaded region. The bottom of the region is labeled 8 ft and this side is perpendicular to the left side of the rectangle. The right side of the shaded region has a perpendicular line segment extending upward that is labeled 2 ft.
help plz!
Sorry , But the need to have a look at that picture to help you out.
ok
does that help?
@AaronAndyson
The area of the entire rectangle is 8 times 16 that is 128 fft
So the fist answer to the first question is 128 ft.
Therefore the total area (shaded, plus unshaded) must equal 128 sq ft
Ok the answer to the first question is 128 ft
How did you get 32?? Show yo work.
I multiplied 8×2×2×1 and got 32
8 *2 *2 *1
That is what i thought the first answer was.
I think it shall be 8(2+2+1) 8(5) so now what is 8 times 5?
40
so is the answer 40
It should be.
ok thanks now can you help on the second question in the picture?
@AaronAndyson
Nonshaded region = entire rectangle - shaded region = 128 - 40
88?
so thats the answer
I think.
Ok thanks! :)
No problem.
The area of the shaded region can be solved by looking at the shaded region as being made up of: rectangle of 2 by 8 ft. plus a rectangle of 1 by 10 ft topped with a triangle with a height of 3 and a base of 10 ft. Sum those up for the shaded region.
You will come up with an area of 41 sq ft. The unshaded would then be 128 - 41.
40 and 88 may be close, but 41 and 87 is better.
However, both answers do total up to the required total area.
I will try summing up the unshaded area and double check. The unshaded consist of the sum the following: rectangle 2 x 16 = 32 sq ft rectangle 2 x 8 = 16 sq ft rectangle 4 x 6 = 24 sq ft Triangle height of 3 ft and base 10 ft = area of 15 sq ft. summing up = 87 sq ft
Hey, it works both ways.
Thanks! @radar
