Look at where b and x cross: the angle in the other side of the 65 degrees is also 65 degrees because of vertical angles

Angle 1 is directly beside of the angle with a measurement of 65. A straight line has a measurement of 180 degrees, so if we subtract 65 from 180 we will have the measurement of angle 1.
