@aaronq  well for this experiment we were asked to distill an essential oil (or terpene), and  then extract the terpene, and perform a TLC analysis on the recovered product and starting oil

I had chosen lemongrass oil. No other compounds were used. except the solvents used for the TLC analysis and extraction.

Your hypothesis will be that they will separate. Since, that is the point of distillation.
