Aboriginal weaponry was no match for firepower and massacres ensued. Introduced diseases, for which the Indigenous population had no immunity, took a terrible toll as in some cases whole clans succumbed and died. As the land was taken up and settled, Indigenous people were crowded onto reserves and missions."
