What are the similarities and differences between solving the equation, -3x + 2 = 11 and the inequality, -3x + 2 < 11?

OpenStudy (misty1212):

HI!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hi

OpenStudy (misty1212):

they are similar because you will subtract 2 and then divide by \(-3\)

OpenStudy (misty1212):

they are different because for the inequality when you divide by \(-3\) you have to change the sense of the inequality equal sign stays the same

OpenStudy (welshfella):

the nethods are the same except when dividing both sides by a negative number. In the case of the inequality the sign is flipped Hi

thanks @misty1212
