because the industrial revolution started here, theres plenty of coal available, markets(colonies), raw material(again from colonies), labour available, educated people, it is surrounded by water bodies n has inland system of rivers which provide easy transformation, pleasant climate so ppl can work all day, hardworking people, etc. etc. etc
