Lucas shivered as the thunder crashed outside his window. The cold, damp, cabin was hours away from town. Alone and scared, he huddled by the tiny candle. As he wondered whether he would survive the night, a leak opened up in the roof. Water toppled onto the table, drowning the flame, and the room was cast into darkness. What object in the paragraph best symbolizes hope? The candle The thunder The water The window

Either A or D?? @inowalst @Holly00d1248

OpenStudy (yolo_king):

I would say the Candle. We know that thunder would just brought more fear to Lucas.

OpenStudy (yolo_king):

We know its dark out because we were told about how he would survive the night. So this shows the importance of light to Lucas knowing that almost no one likes being in the dark.

OpenStudy (yolo_king):

If we think about it the window doesn't really help since is raining out, the window will also bring fear because he will be able to see the lighting out and the sounds of the thunder would also just bring fear. So its clear that the answer is the Candle.

Knowing what you know about interpreting symbolism, what event most clearly suggests a character getting a new opportunity or a second chance? A full moon A half moon A sunrise A sunset

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

r u there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@NinjaTurds

OpenStudy (yolo_king):

I think it is sunrise. Because usually it is the sunrise that gives inspiration. When its sunset its most commonly a negative feeling, at least in my perspective. Both full moon and half moon are both negative feelings as well, in my opinion. so I would probably go with sunrise. Because if you think about it, when there is a sunrise you have a new day, and can start out fresh.

The candle because it gives him hope nad light were as if he was in darkness,he would be terrified and hopes throught the night.
