Select the inequality that corresponds to the given graph. a number line graph with a closed circle at negative 6, shading to the left. Choose one answer. a. 3x - 7 < 11 b. -4x greater than or equal to 24 c. -2x + 7 less than or greater to 13 d. 3(x - 2) - 3 greater than or equal to x - 5

OpenStudy (jchick):

Answer is B right?

OpenStudy (jchick):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmm

OpenStudy (jchick):

I know for sure that it is not A

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

-4x >= 24 turns into x <= -6 when you divide both sides by -4 x <= -6 will have shading to the left with a closed circle at -6 so you are correct

OpenStudy (jchick):

Ok thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YES!

OpenStudy (jchick):

Solve -3x + 1 > 4 and describe the graph of the solution. Choose one answer. a. x < -1; Open circle on -1, shading to the left b. x < -1; Open circle on -1, shading to the right c. x > -1; Open circle on -1, shading to the left d. x > -1; Open circle on -1, shading to the right

OpenStudy (jchick):

This one is A right?

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes right first subtract one and then divide by -3 so when you divide or multiply by negative number "flip the inequality sign" so yes a is right gO_Od job!!!

OpenStudy (jchick):

Solve: 7(x + 2) > 5x - 10 Choose one answer. a. x > 12 b. x > -6 c. x < -12 d. x > -12

OpenStudy (jchick):

This is D right?

Nnesha (nnesha):

can you show ur work :- )

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes ?? no??

OpenStudy (jchick):

Yes just hang on a second

Nnesha (nnesha):

sure :- )

OpenStudy (jchick):

distribute the 7: 7x + 14 > 5x -10 now add 10 to both sides and subtract 7x from both sides: 14 + 10 > 5x - 7x simplify: 24 > -2x divide -2 (don't forget to switch the sign!) 24/-2 < x simplify: -12 < x

OpenStudy (jchick):

That is what I wrote to my teacher

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

-12 < x which is the same as x > -12 is correct

OpenStudy (jchick):

Yes

Nnesha (nnesha):

gO_Od job!!! and yes i like that DON'T FORGET THE SIGN!!!!! :-)

OpenStudy (jchick):

Thanks

Nnesha (nnesha):

np :-)
