How do you graph an equation ?

Nnesha (nnesha):

first you have to solve for y :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, how do I solve for Y ?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

which equation are you dealing with?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is the equation . . .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y + 5 = -2 (x-4)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you need to move that +5 over what undoes adding 5? subtracting 5 does so we subtract 5 from both sides

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what do you get when you do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, you'd get y on the left side and how would we subtract 5 from the right side ?

Nnesha (nnesha):

hmm i guess first u have to distribute parenthesis by -2 (right side )

Nnesha (nnesha):

\[-2(x - 4)\] distribute parentheses by -2 and then subtract 5 both side ..
