What is the volume of the pyramid shown in the diagram?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (nerdgirl):

Well first, we know that the formula for finding the volume for a pyramid is V = 1/3(B)(h).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i was thinking it was 15^3

OpenStudy (nerdgirl):

So if the bottom of the pyramid is a square, and each side equals 3, then multiply 3 by itself four times. What do you get when you do that?

OpenStudy (nerdgirl):

81, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

81

OpenStudy (nerdgirl):

Okay. It tells you what the height is: 5. So if the formula is V = 1/3(b)(h), then substitute the height and the base that we found into the formula, and that will give you your answer. :) See?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes thank you

OpenStudy (nerdgirl):

Anytime.
