What happened before William Bradford and the Pilgrims learned to live off the land? They had to trade goods with other colonists so they could learn from them. They ran out of money because they purchased their food from other colonies. They didn't know how to grow crops, and many Pilgrims died from lack of food. They had to sign a treaty with the Native Americans so they could learn from them.
