I didn't know 'Subscriber' showed up when you point at a Subscribers name..

Didn't know 'cause almost all of them are Ambassadors or Moderators.

subscribers now can change their subscriber's name

Yup =) When Suscribers don't change their name I believe it stays Subscriber

Yes, that's what it says if they do not change their title (subscriber) :).
Note, that ambis and mods are NOT all subscribers, subscribers also have the diamond shape SS under their photo. This is everything you get once you subscribe:

"Choose your own "title" that appears by your username in study groups.
A diamond SmartScore indicator that signifies your sponsorship.
Surf OpenStudy without external advertisements."

You can change the name of that title you get when you subscribe HOWEVER if you are a moderator or ambassador you can not.

The title 'moderator' or 'ambassador' will show up rather than what you set it up, because that title is more important than what you got to chose when you subscribed.

Like how @Luigi0210 had some random title because he has subscribed, but now since he is an ambi it will always say 'Ambassador' unless he umm got de-ambied. (Which should never happen.(
