please help I don't know howto work this out @igreen @phi In one month, Jillian made 36 local phone calls and 20 long distance calls. What was her ratio of local calls to long distance calls for that month?

OpenStudy (phi):

a ratio is one number divided by another number. ratio of local calls to long distance means the top number is # of local divided by the bottom number, # of long distance. they give you those numbers. can you write them down?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well I thought it might be 9:5 but im not sure:(

OpenStudy (phi):

first, use the numbers they gave you. what do you get ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

36 and 20

OpenStudy (phi):

so the ratio is ?

OpenStudy (phi):

\[ \frac{36}{20} \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait so its 9:5 :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

phi?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?????????????????????????????????

OpenStudy (phi):

the ratio is 36/20 (or 36:20) however, we can simplify it. (the same way you simplify a fraction) for example, both the top and bottom are even, so you could divide both by 2 you would get 18/10 (because 36/2 is 18 and 20/2 is 10) but we can simplify even more. divide top and bottom by 2. what do you get ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your wrong I submitted it and the ratio is 9:5 😡

OpenStudy (phi):

18/10 (because 36/2 is 18 and 20/2 is 10) but we can simplify even more. divide top and bottom by 2. what do you get ?
