The MECHANISM of death is any item that was involved in the death. 
Like a knife, a bullet, or pills.

Manner of death frequently includes mechanism, but you are right. I just grouped them all together because the other two are frequently part of the manner of death reasoning.

Still, sometimes cause/mechanism/manner are not the reason for the autopsy.
