In the triangle below, b=____. If necessary, round your answer to two decimal places. Please explain. Thank you!

OpenStudy (kj4uts):

OpenStudy (kj4uts):

@jim_thompson5910 Is this right? Angle B is 180 deg - 28.4 - 33.7 = 117.9 degrees. b/sin(117.9) = 24/sin(33.7) b = 24*sin(117.9)/sin(33.7) Answer = 38.22

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

how did you get 117.9 ? I'm getting 180-33.7-26.4 = 119.9

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Oh I see. You have 28.4 when it should be 26.4

OpenStudy (kj4uts):

oh ok I see that now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is the way to solve this law of cosines @jim_thompson5910 or is there a simpler solution

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you use the law of sines

OpenStudy (kj4uts):

Is it 37.50

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[b ^{2}=a ^{2}+c ^{2}-2ac \cos B\]

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you got this, right? b = 37.4979380619342

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

oh, then you round to 2 decimal places

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so, 37.4979380619342 --> 37.50

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

looks good

OpenStudy (kj4uts):

ok thanks again!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
