Very close to the bottom of this is the policy on tests and quizzes. http://openstudy.com/terms-and-conditions That being said, if you asked "How do you complete the square? I want to learn about that topic." then people can teach you about it. Eventually you will use that on a test. But as long as you do it in advance, it is not cheating. A really good solution would be to take your homework, even stuff you already have done, and go over it with people here. Then you have a second shot at learning the material, so the test would be easier.

I doubt a moderator actually said that. It's not against the rules to prepare for a test. He was likely under the impression that the content you displayed was related to test.
