17. The two box-and-whisker plots below show the scores on a math exam for two classes. What 2 things do the interquartile ranges tell you about the two classes? 60 70 80 90 Class A 60 70 80 90 Class B
I can help you
How do you do it?
class b is 72-83 class a is 74 to 94
Ok, well in that case the IQR for class B is just 83-72=11 and the IQR for class A is just 94-74=20. Does that make sense so far?
Class B interquartile range = 11 Class A interquartile range = 20
Kind of....
In this case, the interquartile range just shows us how the class does in exams (i.e. the range of how well they usually do). We can see on the boxplot that class A does significantly better because they get up to 94% compared to Class B, where the highest mark is around the 83% mark.
So really the interquartile range is telling us how well the class does, as well as how bad they do. and you can back this up by comparing the results as I did earlier.
Class B on the other hand can get worse exam results as their lowest is 72% compared to class A's 74%
Okay thank you !
