What makes a line perpendicular? How do you know if it is or not?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

perpendicular to what ?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

you mean perpendicular to another line ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah,... like if you are given 2/3 what is perpendicular to it?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

2/3 is a number, not a line.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay well like a slope?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

rephrase ur question :P

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

the slopes are what you have to compare. The slopes have to be negative reciprocals of each other. All that means is " flip " the slope and change the sign. So if you have slope 2/3....if you flip it and change the sign (-3/2), then these are negative reciprocals of each other and they will be perpendicular
