Check my answer? :D Ricardo and Kim rowed their canoes from their base camp to a fishing camp. They rowed a distance of x miles upstream on one river, (3x2 - 9) miles downstream on another river, and (2x + 9) miles across a calm lake. Which expression is equivalent to the total distance, in miles, Ricardo and Kim rowed their canoes? 5x2 6x2 3x2 + 2x 3x2 + 3x I think it's C or D, I'm leaning for C but..? Any thoughts?
how did you get your answer?
okay so your first equation would be (3*2-9)+(2x+9) because it would be the sum of the length of both courses
I put the equations together! :) and yes I agree
so then you would simplify
you add the like terms in each parentheses: 2x+6
just an fyi, by (3x2 - 9) , she meant \( (3x^2 - 9) \)
and six is equal to 3*2 so that is your answer
good ur on the right track but how can u simplify 2x+6
ooh
and so we have \(x+(3x^2 - 9)+ (2x + 9)\)
Yeah thanks @bibby didn't notice that!
okay sorry
so you coldnt combine 3x2 and 2x
ok well Result: is 3x2+2x right?
there's a missing x
umm... no I think you still have to put x and the constants into the equation
Yeah where the missing x? o-o
oh and never mind about the constants they cancel out
that was directed at lando \(x+(3x^2 - 9)+ (2x + 9)=x+3x^2 +2x + \cancel{(9-9)}\)
okay and good job!
thank you!!!!!
Thanks @bibby ! Medal for you :)
and thank you @hiuperson for helping!
you're both too kind you might make a lady blush
Welcome! :)
Guys, the answer was actually D, but still thank you!! XD
that's what I said the answer was...
you were meant to simplify the last statement \(x+(3x^2 - 9)+ (2x + 9)\\\color{blue}{x}+3x^2 +\color{blue}{2x} + \cancel{(9-9)}\)
sorry I should have used my words
Hahahahaha oh crap, guess thats my fault I clicked the wrong answer! And no you're perfectly fine! :)
lol, let this serve as a lesson. always make sure you can confirm the answer
