We need to be able to tag people inot chat. Or we at least need to be able to tag mods inot chat.

It would get hectic. And you would get a lot of tags. And in the chats most people call each other by short names instead of typing it all out.

Another thing is that you if you got tagged in the chat a week ago, you would never be able to scroll all the way up to that part in the chat.

Also, users helping others on a post will be distracted by getting tagged in chats. There's also mass tagging to consider.
