Citric Acid Cycle -How does the further breakdown of Acetyl CoA lead to the production of NADH and FADH2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acetyl-CoA

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Acetyl-CoA is produced during breakdown of carbohydrates through glycolysis as well as fatty acid oxidation and enters the citric acid cycle.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

It's not really the breakdown of Acetyl-CoA but the breakdown of citrate - the first step of the CA cycle is the synthesis of citrate from acetyl and oxaloacetate. look at this graphic http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citric_acid_cycle#mediaviewer/File:Citric_acid_cycle_with_aconitate_2.svg
