Acetyl-CoA is produced during breakdown of carbohydrates through glycolysis as well as fatty acid oxidation and enters the citric acid cycle.

It's not really the breakdown of Acetyl-CoA but the breakdown of citrate - the first step of the CA cycle is the synthesis of citrate from acetyl and oxaloacetate.
