A ball is dropped from the top of a building that is 1,000 feet high. Its height, in feet, as a function of the time, x, in seconds, after the ball was dropped, is given by the following equation, ƒ(x) = 1,000 - 16x^2. Which set of numbers is appropriate as the domain for this function? A. Natural Numbers B. Positive Real Numbers C. Positive Integers D. Positive Rational Numbers

OpenStudy (ositan):

I say D.

OpenStudy (shamim):

Domain means the value of x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know but I don't know how to figure it out

OpenStudy (shamim):

The value of x can not b negative

OpenStudy (shamim):

Because x is actually time needed to fall the object frm building

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well I assumed that but aren't all of the answers positive?

OpenStudy (shamim):

x csn b fraction or full number

OpenStudy (shamim):

*Can

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so does that mean b or d?

OpenStudy (shamim):

I think so

OpenStudy (shamim):

Which one include fraction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well I do not see why the time should be limited only to rational numbers. Lengths are allowed to be irrational as well. The only restriction we have is that it has to be positive. So I'd say B - Positive Real Numbers

Thanks for your help :D

You're welcome =)
