Disaccharides are formed via condensation reactions regarding 2 monosaccharide units. In the reverse reaction, hydrolysis of the disaccharides forms 2 monosaccharides which serve as primary energy sources for the body. egs: lactose-the milk sugar the biological importance of carbohydrates in general: principal source of energy structural components of cells stored as glycogen in liver of higher animals (reserve)
