Open study needs more moderation on chats, because I keep seeing rude and Inappropriate comments (in chat).

"When you see someone breaking the Code of Conduct, Community Rules or our Terms and Services, your initial response should never be violent, hateful or terroristic (using any form of fear to make ANYONE stop misconduct). You may actually be suspended for such a misshapen. Two wrongs do not make a right.

Now – I understand there is severity and degree within our system. While it may be completely appropriate to rationalize and mediate certain violations, other violations, such as anything that breaks International, Federal, State or United Law, must be reported immediately and left alone. Do not engage with anyone posting any form of illegal content. Report it. Messages moderators and let them know. Feel free to email a transcript to contact@openstudy.com.

This includes:
- Any form of discrimination
- Racism, sexism or hate speech
- Lewd or promiscuous content
- Releasing personal data: names, emails, phone numbers
- Federal, U.S., or international law violations
- Any form of hacking or distributing illegal content

There are some violations with less severity. General ToS and CoC violations include, but are not limited to: trolling, spamming, foul language, arguing, being rude and malevolent, and harassment.

If you see any of this happening on OpenStudy; do not try to step in and diffuse it right away. Contact a Moderator or Ambassador and ask them the best way to handle the situation. It’s often difficult for Staff members to properly address a situation when there is a large void of vital information. Do not feel intimidated. If someone is being bullied; let us know. If there is a feud between users; let us know. Let us know what was said and what was done. You will not be suspended. Such information is confidential.

Contrary to popular belief, the Staff is not out to get you. We don’t want anyone to be suspended. If an issue can be handled verbally and resolved without the use of moderator tools (which do not solve the feud itself) then we’d rather handle it within such a narrative.

If you see something you feel may violate our Terms then contact an active Ambassador or Moderator. If someone is being harassed in the chatbox; file a report and be descriptive. Let them know what happened, what chat it happened in and the users involved. I cannot stress this enough. Moderators get tons of blank reports every day; this makes it hard to actually decipher violations and act appropriately.

If there was any hate speech or language involved, do not be afraid to let the moderators know in the report box. You will not be suspended or warned for this. Do all you can to help the community.

my advice is to report any serious violation

and feel free not to engage in chat if you find it offensive to your sensibilities

But like everyone has said above, just report it and write an explanation. If the user continues, message a moderator (their names are in purple) or an ambassador (they have a purple A by their name like me). And we will try to help.
You can also tell others in the chat to report so that user gets community suspended.

Telling other people in chat, "Let's all report bla bla" is not a good idea. It tends to start a fight.
