Use elimination to find the solution to the system of equations.

@Mehek14

OpenStudy (welshfella):

multiply the first equation by 5 to give -5x + 10y = 30 ---- (1) 5x + 5y = 15------(2)

OpenStudy (welshfella):

now adding these 2 equations will eliminate x and you can then find the value of y finally plug this value of y into the second equation and solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm confused

OpenStudy (welshfella):

can you add the 2 equations -5x + 10y = 30 5x + 5y = 15 adding 5x and -5x gives zero so that eliminates the x 10y + 5y = 15y and 30+15 = 45 so 15y = 45 what is value of y?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

15y = 45 divide the 15y and the 45 by 15 - what do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=3
